The Realm's Reading Room

Welcome to the Realm of the Underground Lair's fanfic archive!

All of the following fics have something in common -- they all have some sort of a plot.  These are my faves, IMHO the best...so I'll say right now, "Wow, this is an amazing fic".  The summaries, spoiler listings and ratings are on the whole the author's own.  Please enjoy browsing through the Realm's Reading Room.

That's an order.  :)

An Allegorical Oreo by RhymePhile
9K  | PG | Vignette, Humour, M/S UST
Spoilers: Folie a Deux, Detour
SUMMARY: The last Oreo brings about a philosophical discussion about
the nature of Mulder and Scully's partnership.

The Amazing Adventures of Captain Fox Phaserbait and His Trusty Sidekick Nurse Dana Savetheday by Princess of Paranoia and Spider Angel
16K | PG | XF/ST Crossover, Humour, implied main-character romance
Spoilers: No.
SUMMARY: None given

Breakfast by EPurSeMouve
14K | PG | Angsty Vignette
Spoilers: Biogenesis, missing scene
SUMMARY: Some thoughts upon breakfast.

Falling Snow by Snark
336K | PG-13 | Adventure Story, Angst, a bit of UST
Spoilers: Set before Two Fathers, with minor references to everything up to that point.
SUMMARY: Mulder, Scully and a mysterious woman from Mulder's
past crash in the snowy landscape of the Colorado winter.  (SA note: But it's more than that...much more.)

Gilead by Amy Vincent
61K | R | XF/Handmaid's Tale Crossover
Spoilers: none
SUMMARY:  This story is a crossover between the X-Files and the world created by Margaret Atwood in her novel "The Handmaid's Tale."  It takes place perhaps six years in the future.  While it should be understandable to
those who haven't read the book, I recommend reading "The Handmaid's Tale"
on its own merits -- it's a convincing portrait of a nation more ruthless,
more controlling, than Mulder's worst nightmares.

Glass Apple by Brandy R. Coffman
38K | PG-13 | X-File, Humour
Spoilers: Fight the Future
SUMMARY: During a dream, both agents are transported into a fairytale
where Scully must rescue Mulder, who has fallen under the spell of a magic
apple.  Or, the FBI meets the Snow White and the Eight Samantha's.

Hartwell by David Herne
14K | PG | Humour
Spoilers: Bad Blood post-ep
SUMMARY: A third perspective on the events of "Bad Blood."

Hog Heaven by Jess
57K | PG-13 | X-File, UST
Spoilers: None really.
SUMMARY: Mulder and Scully go in search of a "motorcycle-riding, shape-shifting, Elvis hair-do sporting alien" and discover something
about themselves in the process.

Operation Clean House by Sarah Segretti
9K | PG | VA, MSR. Implied adventure.
Spoilers: Tiny ones for Triangle, FTF
SUMMARY: A lost scene from an unfilmed episode. Colonization looms. A stolen moment on the tarmac. In medias res.  (SA note: Here is Branwell's sequal: Won and Lost)

Patient 5A by Glymax
83K | PG | Vignette
Spoilers: None
SUMMARY: A third-party view of an unfolding X-File.  (SA note:  Yes...an 83K vignette.  Fic authors never cease to amaze me.)

Put Your Pants Back On! by Outlandish Salmonid Fish
8K | PG | Humour
Spoilers:  Nullus, stultus puer!
SUMMARY: Mulder and Scully's usual girl talk has them discussing Skinner's true identity.

The Tiger Complex by LoneGunGuy
363K | R | X-File, Angst, and some MulderTorture near the end.
Spoilers:  Terma, Quagmire and Field Trip.
SUMMARY: While investigating a gruesome catastrophe in the Amazon rain forest, Mulder and Scully struggle against a mysterious killer, their own suspicions and the unforgiving jungle itself.

Villains by David Herne
14K | PG-13 | Vignette
SUMMARY: A series of vignettes told from the viewpoint of various "X-Files"
non-conspiracy villains.

Won and Lost by Branwell
19K | G | Vingnette, Angst, MSR
SUMMARY: "I read "Operation Clean House" and later realized the perfectly imagined farewell scene was haunting me.  Artistically it is note perfect as it stands.  In my weakness I yearned for emotional closure.  Sarah kindly consented to my attempting a sequel.  This is it."
